The Henri Deschamps Literary Prize 2011

The Henri Deschamps Literary Prize, in memory of the founder of the Maison Henri Deschamps, was created in 1974 by the members of the Board of Directors of the company « Maison Henri Deschamps – Les entreprises Deschamps-Frisch SA. ».

It rewards a work for the general public, written in French and / or Creole, on a theme of fictional literature: novel, poetry, fictional essay, tale, short story, literary criticism or theater. It can also crown a work of a historical nature.

The objectives of the Henri Deschamps Literary Prize are as follows:

• Generally promote French-language and / or Haitian Creole literature;
• Recognize the excellence of a work written in French and / or Haitian Creole, by a Haitian author or of Haitian origin, by awarding the winner a prize and offering him or her free printing of the winning work.

A jury made up of intellectuals from the country has independently proclaimed the Henri Deschamps Prize annually for about twenty-one years.
